Working well....after a lot of trouble shooting...... August 19, 2010 Tech Guy (Virginia) I had been wanting to get rid of my land line for a long time but hadn't because of kids at home and such. Well, both kids now have cell phones of their own and I was paying $17 a month plus $12 in taxes for telemarketers to call me. I singed up for the basic Skype service 2.99 a month to be able to call land lines and bought a local number, $30.00 a year. So that cost me 2 months of land line phone service for a year. I wanted to still be able to use a regular phone (I looked at Skype phones but wasn't ready to shell out $150 for a cordless) when I saw this adapter and thought I would try it. I installed it on a Windows 7 desktop and was able to receive calls right away on my cordless handsets. However, as some other users posted on here trying to dial out was an issue. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. I finally troubleshooted enough to figure out what the issue was. With Skype on the computer you must use the full size interface AND the dial pad must be showing up. With that combination on my cordless phone I can dial the number in this format 1 555 555 5555 and then press the talk button and Skype will dial and connect the call. The issue is...when you hang up....Skype replaces the dial pad with an "add number to contacts" screen. When that screen is up..you cannot dial from the handset again. You have to switch the Skype window back to the dial pad interface. No matter what setting I chose in Skype...it would not hold as the default. What I ended up doing? I took my Netbook which has XP on it (and cheaper to leave running all the time)and downloaded an older version of Skype (3.8) on it and installed the adapter and skypemate on it. It was up and running and 15 minutes and the dial interface is not an issue at all with the older version of Skype. I left the up to date version of Skype on my desktop machine..so I can still make video calls to my daughter and friends so I can answer either place when someone calls...the cordless handset (which rings great) or on the desktop computer. Sound quality on the handset has been great. I even did an hour long support call with Dell last night just to try it out. A few bugs to mention. Checking voice mail for my cell phone from the Skype on the cordless is an issue. Most voice mail systems want you to press * or # as part of the process and this adapter uses those as switch options. Also, if you call a number and get an auto attendant using the touch tones to go through the menus can be an issue. However, I find myself using my cell for most of those anyway....this option still just provides an extra phone to have and with a Skype number to give out...I don't have to give everyone my cell number.

No longer supported July 30, 2010 TucsonShopper (Tucson, Arizona) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Installed Skypemate and pressed right mouse button to use advanced setting of using USB as the default (also had to reset default audio device in Windows). Now my phones ring when I get a call and picking up a handset opens Skype, but pressing the # at the end of the call to dial only activates last number dialed. While on Skype's recommended list - this is no longer "certified" hardward and so no longer supported... support recommended the Motorola ITA Plus, but couldn't suggest a place to purchase. So, I end up with a 2/3 solution. Plus, sound quality not as good as using the PC (which is better than cell phone). I see many post same problem (or similiar) online, but no real advice on how to fix. I would greatly appreciate any ideas. UPDATE: Thanks Bill! I went whole hog and went with a new PC / OS and installation (using Bill's suggestions for Skypemate eventhough the older version is recommended for System 7 - don't do it people - and the new Skype 5 Beta) and everything works perfectly. I appologize to anyone who felt I shouldn't have used Amazon for this Blog-like effort but I couldn't find the answer online and Skype support wouldn't give me a hint (even though the guy I talked to was quite willing to spend a significant amount of time with me). It does seem this manufacturere / model is the most popular hardware to use (and price is now even lower than when I bought it). With Bill's help, this is now a recommended purchase (just wish there was better documentation / support).
Works Great June 28, 2010 M. Hemingway (Los Angeles) Easy setup and works perfectly. The whole speed dial thing and hitting ** or whatever to enter Skype mode can be a little weird but really not much to complain about considering how cheap my long distance calls are now. I've been told by the peeps I talk to that I sound good over it...but I sound good no matter what.
